My Theoretical Foundations

LOGOS = MEANING

MEANING THERAPY

"Meaning therapy is a pluralistic approach to counselling and therapy that focuses on the fundamental human needs for meaning and relationship. It is a comprehensive way to address all aspects of meaning in life concerns in a supportive therapeutic relationship. Thus, the motto for meaning therapy is, “Meaning is all we have; relationship is all we need.” Meaning therapy assumes that when these two essential human needs are met, individuals are more likely to cope better with their predicaments and live a more rewarding life. When there is deficiency in these two areas, people will more likely experience difficulties in life." (https://www.meaning.ca/meaning-centred-interventions/meaning-therapy/)

I am a clinical member of the International Network for Personal Meaning and a student of  Applied Existential Positive Psychology and Integrative Meaning Therapy.  Please read my essay in the Network's  newsletter.

LOGOTHERAPY

Dr. Viktor Frankl, founder of Logotherapy

As defined by the American Psychological Association, Logotherapy is, "approach to psychotherapy that focuses on the “human predicament,” helping the client to overcome crises in meaning. The therapeutic process typically consists of examining three types of values: (a) creative (e.g., work, achievement), (b) experiential (e.g., art, science, philosophy, understanding, loving), and (c) attitudinal (e.g., facing pain and suffering). Each client is encouraged to arrive at his or her own solution, which should incorporate social responsibility and constructive relationships. Also called meaning-centered therapy. Logotherapy is unique in that Viktor Frankl includes the spirit, in addition to the body and mind, an part of the whole person; the three inseparable from the other.  As a Catholic Christian, I am able to work with those of my own faith to help explore a deeper connection with their creator and the uniqueness of their existence. I also love to work with individuals of all other faiths and belief systems or those who have no religious affiliations.  While Logotherapy does recognize the spirit as part of a persons existence, it does not ascribe to a specific faith or denomination.

I am a member of the following professional organizations:

"We cannot, after all, judge a biography by its length, by the number of pages in it; we must judge by the richness of the contents… Sometimes the 'unfinished' are among the most beautiful symphonies.“  Viktor Frankl-The Doctor and the Soul

Neo-Jungian Psychotherapy

Dr. Carl Jung, the founder of analytical psychology.

I am a student of many of the concepts and theories of Carl Jung, however, I am not a trained Jungian Psychoanalyst.  I do apply many of the concepts taken from Jungian psychotherapy and utilize them to help a client explore themselves, their past stories and their future adventures.  In an effort to better understand and apply neo-Jungian concepts, I have engaged with the following organizations through training and certification:

The Pacifica Graduate Institute

-Graduate Certificate in Applied Analytical Psychology and Neo-Jungian Studies

-Advanced Training Certificate in Applied Mythology

The Zur Institute

Certificate Program in Jungian Psychotherapy

The Centre for Applied Jungian Studies

Certificate of Accreditation: Conscious Living Program

Certificate Course in Applied Jungian Psychology
